Cathedral Mountain Ranch Horse Association
Rules and Guidelines for the Horse Association
- The Cathedral
Mountain Ranch Horse Association was created so that Cathedral Mountain
Ranch Association property owners in good standing wanting to maintain pleasure
horses and ride on the property encompassed by written and verbal
agreements with the Stillwater Mine would have a common set of rules and
requirements.
- The elected
board of directors for the Cathedral Mountain Horse Association shall be
comprised of:
- President
- Vice
President
- Secretary
- Treasurer
- Non-voting
Cathedral Mountain Ranch Association board liaison
- Cathedral
Mountain Horse Association board of director elections shall be held on
the same day as the Cathedral Mountain Ranch Association annual meeting.
- Cathedral
Mountain Horse Association membership meetings shall be held as necessary to
vote on:
- potential group expenses
- expansion
and improvement of group facilities
- expansion
or alteration of individual member owned facilities
- new
member applications
- resolution
of common group issues
- changes
to the Horse Association guidelines and requirements
- A
simple majority of Horse Association members is required to approve any
item required to be voted on.
- Membership
in the Cathedral Mountain Ranch Horse Association is restricted to
Cathedral Mountain Ranch Association property owners in good standing.
- The
horse association is fully funded by the horse association members. There is a one time membership fee of $1,500. The membership fee will be evaluated on
a yearly basis and can increase based on additional costs for improvements
such as pastures, buildings, pasture watering systems, etc. The membership fee applies to all
persons regardless of the amount of time their horses are kept on the premises. No fees are recoverable upon
termination of membership.
- Insurance
costs, anticipated and unanticipated maintenance expenses, rental of hay
storage facilities, and other yearly expenses will be shared equally by
all members on a per year assessment. This assessment will apply to all persons regardless of the amount
of time their horses are kept on the premises. If the yearly assessment charges are not paid by July 1, in
any given year, membership in the Horse Association will be considered to
be terminated and the vacant membership will be made available to other
property owners. The Horse
Association reserves the right to pursue necessary legal action to recover
delinquent fees. The costs of such
legal action will be borne by the former member.
- Except
for the initial membership cost and the yearly assessment expenses there
are no monthly or yearly dues to belong to the Horse Association.
- Livestock
use on the premises is restricted to mules and horses. No stallions will be allowed. Agricultural restrictions on the land
limit the type of animals falling under the definition of ‘livestock’.
- Health
Certificate papers, negative Coggins Test results, and brand ownership
papers for each horse brought on
the premises full time, part time, or day rides must meet the State of
Montana requirements and be available if requested.
- All costs
such as veterinarian expenses, farrier charges, and transportation to and
from these services are the responsibility of each individual Horse
Association member.
- The
horse association president must be notified at least 24 hours in advance
of any animal being brought on the premises to confirm available space and
that health certificate papers are current and Coggins test results are
negative.
- All
hay and feed costs will be borne by each member individually. All hay and feed brought on to the
premises must be certified weed free; certification corroboration must be
available if requested. A group
purchase of these items can result in a savings to the horse owner and
will be done whenever possible.
- There
will be four permanent fenced pastures: one for winter and three for
summer rotation. Each summer
pasture will be used for one year, and allowed to recover for two
years.
- No
horses will be summer pastured until May 1 and all horses will be moved
to winter pasture by September 1.
- All
pasture land is located on Stillwater Mine property. Stillwater Mine, in conjunction with
pasture experts, has limited the number of horses kept on pasture to
12. The pastures in this area are
very poor and may not support 12 horses for the entire summer. As a result additional feeding may be
required; this expense will be borne by each individual horse owner.
- Some Horse
Association members may elect to erect a pen, or corral at their own expense
to keep their horses. Expansion of
the watering system to accommodate new pens is the responsibility of each
individual member. There will no
more than five pens allowed, the minimum pen size allowed is 40' X 60'. The
maximum pen size allowed is 48’ X 72. There will be no more than three horses per pen. All pens will be located in one common area, adjacent to one
another, and connected to common walls where possible.
- Horses
kept in pens full time will not be counted against the total of 12 horses
allowed on pasture. Some owners
may elect to keep their horses in pens part time and pasture part time; in
this case, the horses will be counted as part of the total number allowed
on pasture.
- Any
structure or equipment installed or erected on the premises, regardless of
whether it is a group or individual expenditure must have prior approval
of the horse association membership.
- A
waiting list will be created once pasture and pen space is fully
utilized. Membership in the Horse
Association, or position on the waiting list, is not transferable upon
sale of Cathedral Mountain property.
- Some Cathedral
Mountain Ranch Association property owners may want to keep horses on the
premises for part of the year. Membership
in the Horse Association is required, pasture space is limited to 12
horses, total, and the total number of installed pens is limited to five. Purchase of hay and feed for horses kept
part time will not be available through the association and is the
responsibility of the horse owner.
- Horse
Association membership is not necessary if Cathedral Mountain Ranch
property owners and their guests want to stable or pasture up to four (4)
horses for no more than three (3) consecutive days at a cost of $25 per
day, per horse. Each property
owner is allowed to stable or pasture theirs or guests’ horses no more
than six (6) days, in total, each year. The ability to stable or pasture theirs’ or guests’ horses depends
on the availability of stable and pasture space. Health certificate and Coggins test requirements will still
apply, as will a ‘weed free’ certification for any feed brought on
site. No stallions will be
allowed. The horse association
president must be notified at least 24 hours in advance of any animal
being brought on the premises to confirm available space and that health
certificate papers are current and Coggins test results are negative. In all instances, the hosting member
must ride with the guest.
- Horse
Association membership is not necessary for Cathedral Mountain Ranch
property owners who wish to enjoy up to six (6) day rides per year. In the case of day rides, the horse
must be brought on site the day of the ride and taken off at the end of
the day. There is no pasture,
coral, or feeding availability for day ride horses. Health certificate and Coggins test
requirements will still apply, as will a ‘weed free’ certification for any
feed brought on site. No stallions
will be allowed.
- Cathedral
Mountain Ranch property owners and Horse Association members may allow
guests to accompany them on day rides. The property owner or Horse Association member is responsible for
the safety and good conduct of guests. Health certificate and Coggins test requirements will still apply,
as will a ‘weed free’ certification for any feed brought on site. No stallions will be allowed. In all instances, the hosting member
must ride with the guest.
